MORE DETAILS:

Eco-Printing + Indigo Workshop:

Eco printing is the process of transferring color directly from a flower or plant to a piece of cloth. It’s a simple and fun natural dye technique that gives truly stunning results. We will be using a variety of plants grown by the artist, Jess Fauscette and foraged from Sunshine Lavender Farm to print onto fabric. Attendees will eco-print one 100% silk square scarf. There will be a vat of plant derived indigo for workshop goers to dip their eco-printed silk into for additional all over color. This is a fun way to interact with the natural environment, learn about plant dye methods and create a beautiful flower printed item.

Workshop is offered Saturday June 15th at 9 am, 10:30 am, 1:30 pm and 3 pm. Allow at least one hour. Class will consist of foraging plants on the farm, retrieving flowers from the garden + picking through the cut flowers the artist will bring. We will then arrange the plant materials on our scarves, prep them to be steamed + eco print. We’ll allow the bundles to cool + then retrieve them from the pots, unroll + remove flowers. Attendees will have the opportunity to dip their eco-printed items into a vat of plant derived indigo to beautifully finish off their scarves with an all-over blue shade that perfectly complements the colors from eco-printing. We will rinse the items and hang them to dry. Everyone will receive written information on the plants we’ve used as well as step by step instructions on eco-printing.

Garden Markers Clay Class:

You'll add color and style to your garden bed by designing and painting your own ceramic garden stakes. A set of four bisqued markers will be ready for you to paint with underglaze. Then they will go through the glaze firing by your artist-educator, Angela Eastman of Flag Mountain Studio, after the event. Is that Parsley or Cilantro? Never forget which is Lavender or Rosemary again! For locals to the farm, come back to pick up your glazed markers when you're notified that they're ready OR choose the "Ship my garden markers to me." when you buy your workshop ticket to have them mailed to you.

Quilt Square Painting Workshop: For adults and kids! For your garden space, a porch, she-shed, fence, barn, inside your home  -- anywhere. Kids can join in too! You will choose from a variety of ready-to-paint designs. Two quilt designs are unique to the farm. Select your favorite paint colors to create your very own quilt square. Super fun and easy! With the guidance from a local woodworking expert, (his mom turned him on to painting quilt patterns) adults paint a 24-inch x 24-inch barn quilt square. Kids paint a 12 x 12 and must be accompanied by an adult to participate. Space is limited. Allow 2 hours.

Sunshine Lavender Farm, established in 2000, is small family owned and operated farm. Petite, and many exclaim, a pretty place! Mighty too since we've been growing lavender for over 20 years. When you visit, you'll discover that the farm is feeling spry with oodles of huge productive lavender plants you can't get your arms around. The young ones are getting ready to show off. The farm is our humble home, and we look forward to welcoming you.

How did this event come about? June Bloom celebrations were originally planned as a thank you to the farm’s loyal farm friends and a means to invest in those who help to harvest the lavender when the field is ready. The farm is open just a few days a year. In June, during June Bloom, while the lavender is in bud or flowering, and just before the crop is harvested, for Spring and Fall Planting Clinics and for the Lavender Holiday Farm Market.

Bring whatever you need to be comfortable on the farm during your visit like a quilt or lawn chairs. A hat, water bottle (working hard to be a zero waste/no single use plastic event), sunscreen, bug spray, garden shears and of course, your camera too.

No smoking on the farm. No pets, please. In case of inclement weather, RAIN DATE IS SUNDAY, JUNE 16.

We look forward to seeing you soon!

The Baggett Family
Dale, Annie, Abigail, Sylvie and the entire Sunshine Lavender Farm crew!
